Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the Unplugg mobile application (“App”) and related services (“Services”). Unplugg is a productivity tool designed to help users reduce screen time, build healthier device habits, and review usage patterns over time. By using the App, you agree to this policy.
1. Information we collect
We may collect:
- Account information: such as email address or identifiers from sign-in providers, if you create an account or contact us for support.
- Usage and device data: app interactions, crash logs, device type, OS version, and similar diagnostics to operate and improve the App.
- Permissions-based data: if you grant permissions, we may access screen-time, app-usage, notification, or similar device-level data needed to provide features such as usage insights, reminders, productivity tracking, and time-management tools. We use that information only to operate the features you enable.
- Subscription information: if you purchase a monthly or yearly plan, we may receive subscription status, renewal dates, plan type, and transaction-related information from the app store or payment provider. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.
2. Accessibility Service (Android)
If you enable Unplugg’s optional Accessibility Service on Android (Android AccessibilityService API), Unplugg uses that capability solely to power digital wellbeing features you turn on, including blocking or limiting apps you chose and screen-time rules you configured. In particular, the service may observe whether the foreground application changes (for example via window/foreground events) so Unplugg can determine when a blocked or limited app is opened and show Unplugg’s blocking or limit flows accordingly.
Data involved: For those features, processing is limited to operational signals needed on your device—for example the foreground app’s technical identifier (package name) and related timing/state tied to enforcing your rules—not the readable content of other apps’ screens. Unplugg’s Accessibility Service does not read typed text, messages, notifications’ private contents, screen contents, contacts, or call audio, does not record your calls, does not use Accessibility for remote call or audio recording, and does not use Accessibility for advertising.
Where it is processed: Information processed strictly to enforce blocking and limits via this Accessibility pathway is handled on your device per Unplugg’s in-app Accessibility disclosure (it is not used for advertising, and is not sold). Separately, Unplugg may still collect ordinary analytics, diagnostics, crash reporting, account, or subscription data as described elsewhere in this policy when those mechanisms apply to the App—but they are not a substitute for and should not be interpreted to override this Accessibility-specific, on-device limitation unless we explicitly revise this section after adding new functionality.
Control: You can revoke Accessibility access at any time in Android Settings › Accessibility › Unplugg. Disabling Accessibility may disable or degrade app blocking/limit enforcement features that depended on it. You may also uninstall the App.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App and Services.
- Authenticate users and secure accounts.
- Deliver screen-time insights, habit tracking, productivity tools, and personalized app features.
- Process and manage subscriptions and premium access.
- Communicate about updates, support, or policy changes.
- Comply with law and enforce our terms.
4. Legal bases (EEA/UK)
If GDPR or similar laws apply, we generally process personal data based on one or more of the following legal bases: performance of a contract with you (for example, to provide the App and paid features), legitimate interests (such as product improvement, fraud prevention, security, and support), consent (for permissions, certain notifications, or other processing where required), and compliance with legal obligations.
5. Sharing
We may share information with:
- Service providers who assist us with hosting, analytics, authentication, customer support, infrastructure, and communications under appropriate contractual safeguards.
- App stores and payment processors as needed to deliver purchases and comply with platform rules.
- Authorities when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms may be defined under applicable privacy laws.
6. Retention
We retain information for as long as needed to provide the Services and for legitimate business purposes such as security, fraud prevention, resolving disputes, and legal compliance. In general, account data, screen-time related settings, productivity history, and subscription records are retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward unless a longer retention period is required by law or needed for legitimate business purposes.
If you request deletion of your account, we will delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, subject to legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting, and contractual requirements.
7. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
8. Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You may also be able to withdraw consent for certain data uses by changing your device settings, revoking permissions, or deleting your account. If we send marketing emails, you may unsubscribe through the link in those emails. To exercise your privacy rights, contact us at unplugg.app@gmail.com. You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority where applicable.
California residents: if California law applies, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, and limit certain uses of personal information, subject to legal exceptions. You may also have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights. Requests may be submitted to unplugg.app@gmail.com.
9. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International transfers
If we transfer data across borders, we use appropriate safeguards (for example standard contractual clauses or comparable legal mechanisms) where required by applicable law.
11. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post updates on this page and revise the “Last updated” date. Material changes may be communicated through the App or by email where appropriate.
